Isel Saavedra León's has been, perhaps, the most difficult time that a Cuban high-performance athlete has had to live to integrate a first-rate national team. The ex-volleyball player from San Luis was part of the legendary women's volleyball team called Las Morenas del Caribe in the late 1980s and first half of the 1990s.

Glory of Cuban sport. Cuban pole vaulting athlete. Champion in the Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and Olympic runner-up of the London Games in 2012. She debuted with 19 years at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena 2006, winning the silver medal with a jump of 3.95 meters. Since then she has become one of the main jumpers of its generation.
