The Provincial Center of Visual Arts, in its beginnings Universal Art Gallery, was founded in 1985 with the purpose of promoting the artistic work of creators linked to plastic arts in Pinar del Rio and serve as a reference of what happens in this manifestation inside and outside the country, through exhibitions, halls, conferences, research, theoretical events and others of diverse character, and guiding the work of a network of seven galleries in the territory of the province. Since 1983, it has sponsored the Salón de las Artes Plásticas "20 de Octubre", the most important event of its kind in the region, and since 2002 the annual Critics and Curators Awards, which recognize and promote the work of specialists in these fields. Its Gallery also serves as headquarters for the Provincial Council of Plastic Arts. It consists of 4 exhibition halls with 8 workers and maintains the category of 1st. 

Other spaces such as Correctional Centers, Provincial Delegation of MININT, Universities, Provincial Committee of the PCC, Provincial Direction of Culture. have a stable program attended by the Gallery in the municipality, which has an adequate technical-constructive state. The gallery serves 414 artists. It also has 13 projects, 3 of which are children's projects. It has characteristic spaces and an intentional varied programming for all age groups, of appreciation and creation, that mix visual arts with literature and scenic arts (Illustrated poetry -young artist Januar Valdés-, Doors -young writer and illustrator Valerio- and The magic smile - theatre group Arte cuento-). 1 appreciation space, for teenagers with aptitudes and pretensions to enter the Artistic Education System (La otra mirada -Lic. Historia del Arte Yanetsy Ariste). 1 musical club , The first Friday, with Toques del Río, a young group of experimental style. And 1 space for dialogue or critique, which always brings together artists from the visual arts, literature, performing arts and music, according to a common line of creation or aesthetic conflict, A pe(n)sar de todo, by Marcia Jiménez, writer and CPAP specialist. 7 Socio-cultural and community projects, led by artists in the province.
